Border Police & Customs (CBCU) Stops


Border Police Stops Durban (PSS)

Cosren receive detention letter  from Border Police.  Cosren will notify client immediately and Cosren arrange movement of container from Terminal to Depot for Examination.

Client to contact Customs official on detention letter re examination and produce all required documentation to Customs Official.

Cosren arrange immediately for container to be placed against bank for examination upon arrival of container in the depot.

Once examination completed  Cosren to invoice client for examination costs, storage, demurrage  and cargo released upon payment as follows:

M/Road haul containers

Containers released to client for M/Road haul

Rail containers

Client is to send instruction to Cosren advising Cosren if container should be placed back on rail or if M/road haul is now preferred.
No action will be taken until instruction is received from client.
Should client opt to  rail containers, Cosren will arrange immediate rail of the same.
Should client opt to  take M/Road haul, the standard re-direction and amending charges will then become  applicable.


Customs (CBCU) Stops Durban

Upon receipt of a CBCU Stop, Cosren will put a Line Hold on the containers, preventing containers from being railed/moved from the terminal.

Cosren to inform client of the CBCU stop.

Client to contact customs official and send customs official required documentation.  Container to remain in the terminal until such time as a movement letter is received from Customs. Client to follow up with Customs to ensure movement letter is received.

Upon receipt of movement letter, Cosren will arrange for container to be moved to depot for examination

Once examination completed  Cosren to invoice client for examination costs, storage and demurrage and cargo released upon payment as follows:

M/Road haul containers

Containers released to client for M/Road haul

Rail containers

Client is to send instruction to Cosren advising Cosren if container should be placed back on rail or if M/road haul is now preferred.
No action will be taken until instruction is received from client.
Should client opt to  rail containers, Cosren will arrange immediate rail of the same.
Should client opt to  take M/Road haul, the standard re-direction and amending charges will then become  applicable.


Detentions Durban and JHB

Once examination has been completed in Durban, Client should instruct Cosren to move container back onto rail, if no embargo release has been granted by Customs -  no action will be taken  by Cosren until such time as an instruction has been received from Client.

Rail -  Upon receiving instruction from client to arrange rail for containers,   Cosren will action immediately and arrange container to be railed to   Depot for examination in Johannesburg.

Road-  Should client have arranged an embargo release, upon receipt of all   charges, release will be arranged and client to arrange delivery of   container to clients premises for examination.


Johannesburg Detentions

Upon receipt of Jhb detention, Cosren to notify client immediately.

M/Road containers – Should containers be M/Road containers, client to instruct Cosren to re-instate for rail or advise if embargo release has been arranged.  No action will be taken until such time as an instruction has been received from client and containers will remain in the Terminal until such time as instruction has been received. 

Rail Containers – Containers will be automatically railed to Depot for examination.  Upon arrival in Johannesburg Client to arrange examination directly with Customs.

Client to follow up with depot and instruct the depot to place container against bank for examination.  All customs examination fees to be paid directly to the unpack depot.
